I am a woman at Maritime college. The school requires focus…many people come here and complain that "this place sucks" … "why do we get drug tested?" … "the Regiment is a joke" … "I hate doing this or that." I don't understand why people would go here then? It says on the website…you wear a uniform, yes. You wake up early for formation and/or room inspection, yes. You will have to do things such as PT, Indoctrination, Drug Testing Summer Sea Terms, yes. I don't know why people are so shocked when they go here. You have to be determined and keep your eyes on what you want. Stay focused on school work FIRST, always go where you are supposed to be, and do the right thing and you wont have any problems. The ones who complain most are the ones drinking on campus, the ones who failed a drug test, or the ones who don't even know themselves why they came here. It isn't hard to be a girl at Maritime, as long as you stay out of trouble and away from situations with other guys on campus. You are in the spotlight since there isn't many of us, so do the right thing and keep things private (as private as you can in a small school) Don't give anyone anything they can use to say badly about you. Rumors spread fast like in a small town. If you make a mistake on the weekend, the campus will know about it and will know your name. Don't make silly mistakes. The academics are good. Many people complain about the professors, but they are there for you despite what people say. They aren't going to baby feed you, it's not high school. They aren't going to ask you if you need help. If you need it, go to them, and they will be willing to explain and help. The only complaint I really have about campus is the internet. The internet gets clogged up quickly, there is a small amount of bandwith so registering for classes can be a hassle. Know what you're getting into before you apply and come here, so it's not a shock to you when you are going through MUG (freshman) year. This place is known as easy to get into, but hard to stay at. Academics get tough, licensing classes are difficult, but as long as your focused, you will be fine.
