Anderson University is an institution preoccupied with the of its students at the expense of academics. A few departments are solid due to the efforts of incredible faculty, but this is impossible to discern in advance of attending. Now that I have been to graduate school and compared my educational experience to my peers at many other kinds of institutions, both public and private, it is clear that AU does not meet the rigorous standards upheld at most schools. The campus offers little to no opportunities for students to meet visiting academic lecturers. Many of AU's faculty are not professionally active in their fields. (No, this is not interchangeable for friendliness and approachability. Faculty research is essential for innovative and relevant courses.)Consider what you want out of a college. AU markets its campus primarily as a Christian atmosphere, a place to safely learn, where you should be comfortable. Maybe this is the right place for you.I think we should be uncomfortable sometimes in college. I would have learned a lot more (and had more fun) if I was in an more diverse environment. Diversity encourages more freedom of thought, and it actually does show up in the university curriculum at other institutions.
