Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a 3rd year nursing student who should have graduated in 2009 from the BSN program at TJU. I have always believed that education is the key to success and that if you work hard and study you can achieve this. Before I tell you my experience from TJU I would like to say that some of the faculty are very nice, empathetic and truly caring for their students.TJU failed me because I did not pass by 0.13% on a test that was a very large percentage for our overall grade. My personal life was in shambles at this point because my father had recently passed away and I was dealing with going into and out of court for the estate processes and a wrongful death suite that had occurred in result of the tragic accident. I literally begged and pleaded with the dean of the school with my mom and stepdad present. They refused my sad story and basically just told me that it was policy. Now the way this school runs per semester is that they basically pull out of a hat how they will split the class up between learning two separate subjects. I had OB-GYN first and cardiac second (others had this the opposite way). Because I failed the OB-GYN portion this withheld me from taking the Cardiac section next and I HAD to go "part-time". Jefferson told me that although I had paid for this semester in full already, that when I return I will have to pay once again for the cardiac section ($7,000). Uh, ok but if I was selected to have cardiac first and passed this, but still failed the OB-GYN portion, I would not have to pay for this?!?! Also, they let someone who had broken their leg in a sport return to the same OB-GYN clinical in the summer session with the FACT program but had no exceptions for myself. When approaching the assistant dean about this matter she said to me "Well, he didn't know he was going to break his leg." My response was… "Well I did not know that my dad was going to be killed in an accident!".From this occurrence I not only had to deal with the stigma of failing, but had to keep dealing with my father's death, move out of my apartment on campus (b/c part-time students can't live on campus), my loans were coming in, and I was dropped from my parent's health insurance!!!!!THOMAS JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY did not care in the least. I pleaded my case to the Dean of Nursing and wrote a long, descriptive letter of my specific situation. Her response was… It's policy and included my school records of how I was not at their standards anyway on some of my previous test scores before and even brought up that I failed my HESI. (???!!!) Not only do I consider the Dean of this school and some of the higher faculty evil, I consider them low and un-human. I wish so much that I would have gone to a different school of nursing and had not built the courage up to return to this school that cares so, so little for their students besides what is in their wallets.
