I'm about to finish my freshman year at Lehigh, and it was definitely a roller coaster ride. The first semester we were encouraged to pull together; there are a ton of hall activities, IM sports, etc. However, second semester becomes a complete turnaround, as 1/3 of the people in my hall pledged, 1/3 didn't, and 1/3 participated in athletic activities. Second semester is where everyone becomes labeled as an athlete, frat bro, or independent. I am an independent, but I enjoy partying as much as the next guy. The Greek system just wasn't right for me. I'm not going to BS you, my social life went down the drain a little when I decided not to pledge, as I lost some of my friends. However, it's not the end of the world. There are plenty of clubs to join and the University tries very hard to provide students with things to do, and if you know people in frat houses you can get into some of their parties (for free!). If you do not like to party at all, however, DO NOT COME HERE!

So that's my take on the social life. So far the academics have been great, I got good grades in HS and I continue to get good grades, the stuff is not too easy but not too hard (in the business school). The faculty is great, and overall the education quality is excellent so far.

I wish there was more camaraderie and school spirit here, however. Once the people in Greek life finish pledging they think they're too cool to do anything outside of their house, and it's almost like they're not even members of the Lehigh community anymore. No one goes to sporting events, except football & wrestling. There is somewhat of a division between Greeks and independents, but I'm still friends with a few of them.

Overall, I have had a decent experience at Lehigh. Not fantastic, but I am getting what I came here for, which is a quality education, and I'm having some fun while doing so.

Pros:

Academic Quality

Faculty

Campus

Resources, extra-curriculars

People are chill for the most part if you are

Cons:

Greek life separates people from their friends 2nd semester

A few people are rich assholes (but that exists everywhere)

Surrounding city of Bethlehem sucks

I would come back and do it all over again if I had the option.
