Even though I am not yet a student at BYU, I can feel the vibe that it sets off. Depending on your views, the students and faculty there range from inviting, rigorous and nice to isolationg, uninspiring and close minded. I can see both sides of the spectrum and I wish each could understand the other because it is true. I feel more strongly that BYU NEEDS more diversity. The point of faith IS to question everything and I feel that a majority of students are indeed closeminded and need to test their faith by actually living among people who are not Mormons. Even as a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, I can see how so called "box- mormons" from Utah in fact give mormons a bad name by isolating and alienating those with differing views without tolerance or even a willingness to understand. I think BYU needs to diversify and focus more on the tolerance and understanding part of having an education.
