Here is a gist of advice. If financial aide and/or scholarships are not covering AT LEAST 80-90% of the tuition cost, then go to another University. The reason I say this is because the price you are paying for this quality of the education is simply not worth it. I know this is a private University, but the quality and structure of the classes can be found in other schools that are "significantly" cheaper such as the CUNY and SUNY schools. If you decision of going to this school is because it is "close by my house" then do more research. The tuition cost and loans of Adelphi will completely outweigh the tuition and transportation to a cheaper college that is at least an hour away.

Now to a more specific negative aspect of the University. The campus is small and I mean it is SMALL. You will see the same people everyday and most likely you will not get to know them unless you decide to make yourself significantly noticeable to everyone on campus. Chances are you will see the same people in all your major classes for each semester. Most likely they will not get to know you and you will not get to know them. The atmosphere on this campus is basically like a second high school. You will see many students with "Snooty" and "preppy" characteristics. I chose to transfer out of this University after the first semester because of the price and atmosphere; this simply was not the right place for me and I did not like my experience here.

In regards to faculy… The professors are good, but don't expect anything different (performance wise) if you were to come from either a community college or another university WITH the similar class sizes and structures. The professors I have taken do try their best to help you if you actually ask for it. However, some students tend to exaggerate the performance of certain professors; of course this is the case with all colleges, but this is a small college with a smaller student body.

Overall, I suggest you do a lot of research and don't just jump to the conclusion that since this University is close to your house, you'll go there. Take into consideration if the program you're interested in is being offered at another University that is significantly cheaper and perhaps still around your area of travel. Adelphi is a decent school, but as a private University, it is simply not worth your money.
