Gotta say, I transferred to CMU to get away from eastern without any prior knowledge. The atmosphere revolves around parties and social life (don't get me wrong its pretty sweet sometimes). Athletics are a huge thing especially football with dan lefevour but hes gone now, seriously the university pours most of its money into football that now sucks and other club sports aren't respected at all. The academics are good in areas like teaching but in history its rock bottom garbage. The fact that CMU is literally in the middle of nowhere and is NEVER an advantage, Mt pleasant is a tiny rural town and is only known for central. Once you get to be an sophomore then your allowed amazing dorms then after that most get apartments off campus. A lot of people go home every couple of weeks while even though I never hated home I certainly enjoyed college more and in 2 years I went home 6 times. It's a great university if you want to go for broadcasting, teaching, and business and if you want the college experience I just didn't like it because I was the opposite of what CMU offered.
