HWS is what you make of it. Yes, many of the students appear to have stepped out of a "JCrew" catalogue, but that is an unfair generalization. The Colleges have a fantastic service-learning component, our athletic teams are very close knit, and our professors are challenging. The social life tends to revolve around off campus houses and frats, but that too is what you make of it. My biggest problem with campus is the amount of apathy, a lot of students don't know how to get involved. That can easily be fixed with proper communication and is not a reason to stay away from a school. The Lake is gorgeous, housing options for freshmen are a lot better than many of my friend's schools and many interesting courses are taught. I don't think it is right to judge a college by the way people are dressed, a JCrew sweater doesn't mean someone is a bad person. Initially the amount of wealth on campus takes getting used to, but you quickly learn to see people as people not $$$.
