Im currently enrolled in the Computer Animation Program from 2009-2010. Honestly, i don't think i could of picked a better school. Yes the school is very expensive, but once you graduate you can come back and take any class in the program you graduated from for FREE. Your purchasing a lifetime education not just a diploma. Now one thing to know about this program is that it's constantly changing, every month a class will be updated or changed to fit the needs of the students or material needed to be taught. A Panel of industry professionals come in every few months to review what the school is teaching the kids and they give feedback to the course directors of what they would like to see implemented or changed. And these panel guys are coming from Sony, ILM, Blur, WB, and many other leading effects houses.

The program is HARD there is no way around it, you have to be completely committed and self motivated, no one is going to hold your hand, because honestly… that's how it really is in the real world, this school teaches you how to be an industry professional and will not let you graduate if they are not completely convinced that you can produce the quality work they demand. The schools facilities are top notch and there's always enough space for everyone, yes hours are tough but they're supposed to be, you will work 12-16 hour days 6 days of the week, but hey some studios work you even harder then that, there's even some days you will have to work for 40+ hours straight, but with 3 coffee shops located on campus it eases the pain. The instructors are great, most of them are industry professionals or really knowledgeable on the subject they specialize in. They're all extremely helpful, funny, and really nice. Btw, i always found it funny how some people would complain that some teachers aren't super successful industry pros.. well if they were super successful why would they be teaching at a school? But with that said, all of our teachers are required to keep practicing or take up side jobs to keep their skills sharp, and yes 2 of our teachers did some work for Avatar. And for the record, about all of our talented Animation teachers came from Disney.

Now about the job leads, the studios contact the school and say hey we would like to see X amount of students who are really good in this area, and yes they will recommend the best of the bunch! why on earth would you recommend someone whose work is not as good? how would that be fair to the people who really worked hard to graduate with a quality reel? If your complaining about not getting a job lead, then guess what, your work is not good enough you should of worked harder. The only people i ever hear complain about this schools CA program are slackers. If you really want to do CG, and you've got the determination and self drive to push your self to succeed then this is the school for you.

one more thing… i know a lot of people complain about winter park, but personally i think the place is beautiful and really artistic. If your complaining about it costing money to have fun, then please tell me what free fun you've been living off of for the past few years? also a lot of people i know who complain about money are spending all of it on video games and comic books and toys, and i don't.. which is why i can afford to eat better and go out once in a while.

Hey thank you so much for your very informative critique!! this is pretty detailed and i find it very helpful since youre disclosing an insider's perspective. i really appreciate it. im already planning my life accordingly since im gonna be applying to go the Full Sail in a year or so. thanks again for your input!
questionFor the computer animation courses, how advanced do your artistic skills need to be? Do they help build your skills, or do you just come w/ what you know how to draw already and that's all? I'm taking some art classes now to brush up on it in preparation, but I still get intimidated from time to time about it.
