I'd have to agree with the comment below me (the kid from NY) and absolutely disagree with the disgruntled business major from the west coast. OSU is a school with boundless academic, extracurricular and athletic opportunities. You really have to take initiative in order to succeed here - no one is going to hold your hand. In my view, this is the ultimate "real-world," college experience, something I was sorely missing when I went to a small private liberal arts school in, surprise surprise… the West Coast (So Cal to be exact).

The kid from the west coast claims that OSU has "no repuation" outside the state of Ohio. Really? Then explain to me how I got a job working for a firm near Wall Street in Midtown Manhattan, only 2 months after graduation, even before some of my Ivy League contemporaries (the Fisher degree goes a long way, trust me). And OSU has the second highest number of living alums for any school in the U.S. (2nd to Penn State), and MANY of them are in NYC, D.C., and other parts of the East Coast (even some in Florida, Arizona, and California).

It's funny, I go to baseball games in NY (Mets fan representin'), and I've been pleasantly talked to parents and other alumns of OSU (have to also deal with all those people wearing the Penn State/Michigan gear in the area, ugh…) I talked to one of the gate attendents working the games, who told me her son (like myself) loved OSU, and is now working for GE, one of the best companies in the world, in Cincinnati. Not too shabby for a "dumb hick school"

Don't let some of the negative comments deter you from coming to OSU. Yes, it may not be as culturally enlightening of a school, as say, NYU or Columbia, but it's not supposed to be. It's a school that is what it is - a very big, well-respected public university offering solid programs all around (especially in business), and attracts those that are sports fanatics. If you can's stand all the sports, and the stupid, drunken hicks/rednecks from Ohio, my suggestion is to try to find some East/West Coasters, or international students at the school, or go to a school elsewhere. It's that simple.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about going to OSU, and what its like to live on campus. Go Bucks!

responseThis sounds like an advertisement. Do you work for the university?
commentLol hell no! I just loved my time at OSU, and giving my full, unbiased opinion of the school…
commentI graduated in 05 and while I didn't hate the school, the people were what made my experience so bad. The one very accurate part of your review is that the school is full of hicks and dumb jocks. I was an Ohio resident, so I couldn't afford to go out of the state. My main choice were Miami (J-Crew U) and OSU. I chose the lesser of two evils. In 06, I moved to NYC. I honestly can say that my OSU degree didn't help me, nor did it hurt me. Whenever someone found out that I went to OSU, they would always say the same thing "great football team". Outsiders don't associate OSU with great academics, despite what many in Ohio believe. I worked my butt off once I got to NYC and was able to get a pretty good job with an advertising firm. Ohio State is one of the biggest schools in the country, but it doesn't necessarily produce the brightest alumni. If I could do it all over, I probably would have taken out loans and gone out of state. A part of my job involves the initial stages of the hiring process and I usually throw out resumes from OSU alumni unless they had a 3.8 because I know what really goes on in Columbus (drunken debauchery and lots of rednecks gathering on Saturdays yelling “Go Bucks” and acting like they are in an Irish pub on St. Patrick’s Day).
questionHi,

Could I check with you how is the student-teacher ratio over there in OSUC?

Are the classes generally in big lecture halls or cozy classrooms?

responseOhio State is the worst school in the Big 10. It's for dumb meatheads who only care about football.
questionHow is the surrounding city? I've visited the campus but didn't get a chance to walk around Columbus. I heard it isn't safe?
questionI was wondering what the internship opportunites are like for business students seeking an internship in NYC. I go to stevens institute of technology but i feel like the whole tech school is not for me. I was considering transfering to ohio state to get that university feeling with an awesome business education as a finance major.
responseI agree with the third comment. An OSU education is WAY overrated by people in Ohio. Once you get outside of Ohio, no one associates Ohio State with academics—not by any stretch of the imagination. I don't think the degree with hurt you, but it certainly won't help you. I highly doubt that this person really got a job on Wall Street. Fisher isn't really that good.
responseI was also hired by J.P.Morgan for an Investment Banking role (currency trading) where they told me, during the interview, how well regarded the Fisher college of business is. I was quickly promoted over the next few years as well. Sorry to burst your bubble, but tOSU is a great business school with a solid reputation out of state.
