I love U of R. I feel as if a majority of these reviews are simply the (much) smaller percentage of campus who is unhappy with Rochester. For the most part, everyone I know loves where they are and contrary to seemingly popular belief, I know very few people who consider transferring. So to address and dispel pertinent beliefs:

The weather: Yes, it is not a warm school. But the students bundle up and get through it, and it is just another winter. Fall and spring are beautiful in Rochester and I believe, make it worth it. The gorgeous spring makes it hard to focus come exam time, but it's worth the while!

The academics: Undisputedly great academics. Great, easygoing professors; and have accessible office hours, for even the largest classes. Top-notch, bright professors who really do care about their teaching. For those who complain that U of R's reputation isn't as well known as other schools, I've never found this a problem, and actually found that lots of people have heard/ are impressed by U of R. The school seems science-oriented, but they have amazing political science and IR programs, as well as psychology, ASL and many other departments.

The social scene: Party life isn't like a big state school; alas, U of R is not a big state school. Personally, my decision to partake in Greek Life has been an excellent one and I know it's definitely helped socially. But I have many unaffiliated friends and they manage to be going out whenever they like. A social scene is definitely here; WINTER, spring, or fall.

I love it here, and I would definitely not take everything on this site to heart. Take it all with a grain of salt; realize most of the comments are angry students looking to channel their frustration. Understandable, but it shouldn't determine your college choice. Better yet, come down and see for yourself!
