Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
WPI is generally a reasonably good school, although some majors are significantly better than others. The coursework varies, although if you put in 2 hours a night (total) and are intelligent, you will get an A in introductory courses. The course sizes are quite large for introductory courses (especially in CS) which contrasts to their advertisement of small courses.Overall, the coursework is less challenging than I expected although I am only a first year student. Students expect to be spoon fed information about API's etc and do not Google the information themselves, at least in the computer science program. The teaching varies: some teachers really immerse you in the subject while most just read PowerPoints and one may just as easily not show up. The quarter courses cover less than semester courses elsewhere (although you can take up to 7 courses). For example, the algorithms courses covers less than similar courses at UMass, Northeastern, Cornell, and UIUC. WPI prepares you for the real world with strictly enforced deadlines. The faculty and TA's are generally very helpful in office hours.Socially, WPI is quite good. You don't really feel "the ratio" too much. There are things to do if you look and students with whom you will enjoy.
