Major: Chemistry (This Major's Salary over time)
I went to Denison for a year but I've now transferred to a far better university and I am very glad that I did. Denison is a very pretty campus and I chose it because of it's small size and amazing financial aid package (I got into GWU but I couldn't afford it). I really did enjoy my first year there but I'm glad I left. The students were friendly but due to the small size, if something happens on campus, every single person plus faculty will know about it in less than 24 hours. Majority of the kids who go there are from very wealthy families so there's definitely a large amount of snobby people around…and Greek life reigns supreme. As a biochemistry major, I was wait-listed for my second semester General Chemistry class (it's a two semester course) and when I spoke with the department head, his advice was I was beyond angry about this. How can the department tell me to change my major when I declared it as soon as I enrolled and they have the nerve to tell me that I can't peruse it because they don't have room for me? After a series of rude emails from my parents to the Dean, they finally got me a spot. For a school that costs a LOT of money to attend, they can't not give you a spot in a class required for your major. I'm glad I left Denison. I can only imagine what they would say when I took higher level Chemistry courses. It is simply not okay. I spoke with upperclassmen who told me that they really wish they had transferred in their first two years because Denison is not at all a helpful environment for students who want to succeed in the future. Bottom line: Do not let the beautiful campus fool you. Your future depends on the college you go to and you want the best experience possible. Choose wisely! Even though it's cheap with it's good financial aid package, you will NOT get a good education here and in the end, it's not worth it.
