I decided to write this review after a recent eye opening experience after to returning to Morgan State University after being away for 10 years.

Let me say not much has changed except a few new buildings, and all other things have actually gotten worse. The only reason I came back is because I did not finish my degree and only needed to take two classes in order to complete. I guess one would say why wait so long to finish two classes…easily it's the imcompentence of this school.

When I was attending Morgan State 10 years ago, I learned at the last minute that I needed to take these two classes in order to graduate. That should never happen except, I don't ever remember seeing a true academic advisor or counselor. Back then you were suppose to meet with the Chairperson of your department. When I would schedule meetings I was always rescheduled and put aside. Morgan did not have a team of counselors dedicated to help students make it to graduation, so at the last minute I was told I needed these credits. The credits were offered at inconvenient hours and yet I enrolled in the class thinking I could manuever my work schedule to make this class everyday. Low and behold I couldn't and ultimately failed the class which meant I could not graduate on time. Again, not having the proper academic advisors, I never had anyone tell me that I could have taken these classes off campus. There is no academic support in this school.

10-years later, I decided I need to finish what I started. I wanted to transfer my credits but that meant losing some credits from Morgan and it would have cost more money and more time. So I re-enrolled and the Admissions office was so dismissive and unhelpful. They act as if they were doing me a favor. Very unprofessional and rude staff. Very disorganized. I was given the run around to get permission to take the same two classes off campus because the classes were still offered at inconvenient hours. I mean this is 10 years later…what madness? Don't they realize that some students might work and still want to pursue a degree. I would wait for staff members to respond to e-mails or voice mails for weeks at a time. I was basically a new student because of all the campus changes and I never received any formal information or guide about the new campus and what my next steps were. It has been an awful experience. Then to top things off, I attend a community college which offers the class I need in the evening and the process was so much smoother. When I enrolled I immediately had to see an advisor who went over my transcript and gave me advice. I had a campus guide that outlined all the various departments, their locations, and phone numbers. I even called the wrong department for something and they offered to help me find the correct department and they weren't even an academic department. For all I know, they were in the campus food service department and yet they went above and beyond to help me. The classes had laptops and wi-fi service. Way more advanced then what I saw at Morgan. The community college website was alot more user-friendly than Morgan's. What an embarrasement to a four year college to have a two-year community college have better resources. If I could transfer without losing credits I would because this is a poor excuse for a university. It hurts even more that it is a HBC that is so poorly ran. They need to definitely replace the administrative staff. I will say that I have found a few diamonds amongst the rough and they are the few staff members that have taken time with me to help me in this process.I'm so disgusted with this school that when I do graduate I don't even want to take part in the commencement exercise. Just give my degree so I can bury this horrific experience which should be the most gratifying. I've clearly been robbed of that now.
