I don't understand all of the negative comments given about this school. I mean, if I only decided on a school based on comments I would have never gone here, but that's not the case. I loved my first year at NIU, and quite frankly I felt some what offended at all of these rude comments. School is what you make of it people, point blank. I will agree with the comment that someone made under my comment about Neptune North, since I think we lived on the same floor. 3rd floor Neptune North was ghetto, I'm not going to lie, but one floor does not represent the whole university. As for the person who was bashing NIU police, and inferring that they were racist, come on now! I got to know a few NIU police personally, and I felt pretty safe on campus because of them. As for the stuck in a time warp black guy who made NIU seem like a racist hick town, get a grip. NIU staff is far from racist, and racially, NIU is an equally balanced school. I didn't feel that I was in a school where one race was more prominant than the other. I will agree to the social scene comments to a certain extent though. Personally, I'm not a huge partyer, I'm more of a lounge around, hang out person, but I did know people who loved to party and they were out every weeked doing something. I'm guessing that people expected the town of Dekalb to be full of bars and clubs, but it's not like that. The actual campus of NIU always had something happening, EVERY WEEKEND, so it's not like there was ever a moment where if I did feel like going out, I didn't have anywhere to go. Actually, depending on who you ask, NIU is known for being a party school, so where is the weak social scene idea coming from? All in all, NIU is not the awful campus that some are trying to make it out to be, yet everyone is entitled to their opinions. My best advice to possible NIU students reading this, just visit the college yourself and figure out on your own if it's the right school for you. Don't let people's biased experiences deter you from making your own decision.

So … ALL the comments about rape and robbery should be ignored? NIU obviously needs more security or better and quicker security responders on the scene. BTW, a quick visit to the school won't really prove much when many of the bad things might happen at night. I'm not going to f-ing camp out to watch some bad shit go down. I think the common rape experiences sums it up for me.
