Major: Accounting (This Major's Salary over time)
UNH concentrates heavily on student activities with the goal of keeping students happy. Which is a plus however students don't go only to college to have a good time they go to get an education and start a career and get that big fat paycheck. It seems about roughly 70% of school resources goes into student social activities while faculty are understaffed and post college resources (career services/alumni services) are underfunded oversights. The majority of seniors graduate UNH with no job confirmations and the jobs students do get have nothing to do with their major. Of four of my friends who graduated in 09, the chemistry major is unemployed, the accounting major is a call service rep, the other accounting major is a UPS delivery rep, and the glorified CJ major is a farm hand. Yep that CJ major shovels animal feces for a living. It seems UNH administration has a warp mentality of why students go to college. UNH gives you lots of movie trips, raffles, concerts, pizza socials, and spring festivals which are A LOT of fun at the moment. However when commencement day rolls around and you're standing there with a diploma in one hand and bills from Sallie Mae in the other and no job to pay for all those bills those socials just won't seem worth in the long run. At UNH they preach the fun college experience however when that experience is over all students are left with is a big pile of memories. The last time I checked a person can't live off of memories alone. UNH sells fun; it is the institution's currency of choice. However when it is time for students to embark on that next step, life after college, students find that they are ill prepared, lacking the necessary tools, skills and resources to start their journey successfully. If I could do it all over again, I would have gone to a school that was less focused on fun and more serious about me and my future.
