I see the college's strength as a stepping-stone i.e. a place for students from a poor area to become acclimated to academia without having to break the bank. Because it is not rigorous, general education requirements can be satisfied while keeping one's GPA at acceptable levels for scholarships.

Addressing a few of my rankings:

  • The faculty are reasonable and accessible, the key is to address concerns before they become problems.
  • The school does not have the funds to be creative, innovative, &c. On a similar note, the grounds have a very Soviet ethos, but they are in reasonable condition.
  • Be advised it is de-rigeur for the locals to carry knives. The school would have gotten a F for safety if it was not for the ever-vigilant parking patrol.
  • The school, in light of its monetary paucity, does a reasonable job of utilising its resources.
  • It is small enough so that one can develop a rapport among the faculty.
  • The surrounding city is in ruins, and the fact that the local can live there is a testament to their ability to endure hardship. Frequent trips to Christiansburg and Roanoke are advised to avoid cabin fever.
  • A few proposals for the school:

  • Expand the use of online classes for general education requirements
  • A bit of colour never hurt things, I hear coloured paints cost as much as off-white
  • Permit placing out via examination
  • Do not be afraid to experiment or shake things up a wee bit
  • Hire the Saudi students to cook part-time
  • Ask a Question or add a response!
