I chose HPU for the small campus feel thinking at such a "great" university I would make life long friends and be prepared for the real world. Boy was I wrong.

After being at the University for 3 weeks I realized I made a huge mistake by attending. Coming from a small Alabama town, people live and breathe football. I quickly got bored from the lack of athletics at hpu and became jealous of my buddies who were attending football games each weekend.

Yes the campus offers activities but are they really stuff the college student is interested in? Bingo, an arcade, karaoke? I would trade all of those so called amenities for a football team and a little more school spirit.

Yes the dorms are state of the art but they are sheltered. Dividing by sex makes it difficult to interact with members of the opposite sex. Myself and many others agree the dorms at HPU can easily make you feel lonely and you quickly realize you would trade your suite with a kitchen and diagonal tile for a cinder block wall room with a twin bed dresser desk and mediocre living situation. Thats really college, thats the real world for you.

My god is the campus small. A campus of over 3,000 feels like a campus of 500. There is a lack of diversity, and with the amount of gossiping that goes on you feel like your in 11th grade again.

the university prides itself on the way it looks but the academics are lacking. Many of my professors didnt even speak clear english, and didnt return my emails. They werent there for office hours because most teach at surrounding colleges.

As a business major I found my early business classes to be unchallenging and I learned nothing I didnt already learn from the internet or high school classes. Bottom line it was simple information.

At the end of my freshman year I made the choice to transfer to an in state University and it was the best decision I have ever made. With a larger student body there are more on campus oppertunities and my professors are dynamic and know how to get the best out of their students. I would honestly like to forget the time I spent at hpu.

Before you make a decision to go to any college look at all your options. Make sure where you go is the best place for all aspects of the college life. Sometimes the school that was right in front of you the whole time you ignored for the "better school" ends up being the right fit.

Don't base your college decision on the amenities or the fact you can have your own room as a freshman. Pick a place that will get you the best job and career path. In twenty years it wont matter if during college you slept in a dorm room with crown molding or a dorm room with mold. What matters is the education, and positive all around experience you have.
