I
loved Marquette. I transferred in my sophomore year from another
university, and it was the best decision I could have
made! I come from a middle class family in Massachusetts
and I meet some really great, albeit rich, people from
the mid-west. The university is expensive, but I received
so much in financial aid, from MU, that it made
it more affordable. Plus their loan accounts people really work
with you to help reduce your loan payments. I
was an AmeriCorps volunteer and they University forgave a large
% of my loans, and I now have NOTHING to
pay back!!!
The student body is just the right size,
for me. Not too small or too large. I meet
so many people through roommates, school clubs, and work.
I never felt pressured to drink, and on weekends I
was not drinking to get drunk.
I was not the
biggest fan on Milwaukee until I got an internship at
the downtown YMCA and really started exploring the city. There
are so many little affordable shops, that all have a
unique twist or style (Historic Third Ward Area, Broadway st
south of I-794, N. Water St between E. Michigan and
E Clybourn st). The East side of the city is
super nice! The Brady St area has a lot
of cafes, restaurants and shops. There are so many
restaurants that are, again, affordable! (Wicked Hop, Apollo Cafe, etc)
Plus a round trip Mega Bus to Chicago can range
from $10-$25 (depends on the time you leave).
I miss
Milwaukee/Marquette and can't wait to make it back to the
Midwest!
