Skidmore College

Skidmore is a great place. The negative reviews are a bit over the top. The place is by no means perfect, but find me a college or university that is. I had a tough first two years at skidmore and though I initially disliked it, I have since come to enjoy my time here.

The intro classes can be a bit lame but once you get past them you have the opportunity to take really interesting classes with great profs.

I am not really sure what to make of the negative comments about people here being unfriendly. I would say that generally speaking people here are very approachable. No one will ever tell you that your not allowed to a party or something like that.

I can see why some people would not be happy here but for the most part pretty much anyone can fit in. Skidmore is one of the few small colleges with a good mix of students. There are a lots of artsy hipsters but there are also a good amount of jocks and others to balance things out. There is also lots of time spent between the two groups. Its not uncommon to see a hockey kid drinking at some party with a hipster.

There are also great opportunities to do research as an undergrad student. I even have a couple friends who have already had there work published in leading academic journals.

My best advice to anyone reading this though, is to remember that you will never find a place that is perfect. People are under the impression that there is some school out there waiting for them like a sort of soul mate. Every school has pros and cons. Its all about weighing the two of them. Sure there are aspects of skidmore that I do not love, however, there are enough things about skidmore that I really like that outweigh the negative ones.
