Listen up. I attended Nazareth—1978-82 and graduated with a degree in English with a writing concentration. If you are looking for a college, you might say, "Why should I listen to this 'ol gal from the disco era?" Looking over the reviews—positive and negative—I see that the essence of "The Happy Hillside" that I remember remains unchanged. I'm going to tell it to you straight.

I neglected to go college hunting until late in the game in my senior year; I was an average high school student, but loved learning. I went to Naz by default, as my best friend said,

If you come here, we can study together!
Turns out, we never did study together, but Naz was a good choice for me.

The absolute best aspect of Nazareth was, and I assume, is the excellent professors—Dr. Alec Sutherland was my all-time favorite. He made us think outside the box and turned us into great writers. Classes were small—probably 15 students in a class, on average. If you want to attend a school where you're not a faceless number, and you want a great education, Nazareth is it.

I lived on campus and made some close friends, many of whom I keep it touch with to this day. Just as now, though, the social life was just about non-existant. We had to go over to U of R or St. John Fisher for entertainment. However, I did not go to college for the social life; I went to expand my mind.

Take advantage of opportunities, expecially internships or study abroad opportunities. Do it now, because when you have adult responsiblities, you'll wish you had.

The campus is beautiful and if you can take a short walk or drive, Pittsford will keep you slightly entertained. I was able to secure employment using my degree, although that didn't happen immediately. (There was a recession in '82 and job prospects weren't great—sound familiar?) However, having that solid base of a liberal arts education and studying a field about which you're passionate, are keys to success. I've held numerous, progressively responsible positions, including English instructor, academic advisor, career placement coordinator, and assistant dean. I'm grateful to Nazareth for providing a solid liberal arts education. One other word: If I had it to do over again, I'd probably attend a community college for the first two years (English 101 is English 101) and then transfer to Nazareth. Your diploma will say "Nazareth College." Go for it.
