I went to Kaplan College Dallas Texas for the Dental Assisting Program which had the tuition price tag of 13 Thousand Dollars. I have worked in another industry for quite a long time and decided it was time for a change. I chose Dentistry. We were taught our pre-requisites in 3 months and then clinical lab for 4 months and then externship. The material was out dated. When I went to my extern site, intra-oral cameras were used, as well as digital x-rays. Only rarely at the extern site was actual x-ray film even used. There is no Panorex Machine installed at this campus, it is actually in storage because the building, (where the school rents a few floors) will not allow the installation of the Panorex Machine so that Panorex or Cephalometric X-Rays can be taken. Way too many students are enroled at one time so lab time is very limited. When the school says the class is to educate you in the basics of Dental Assisting, They mean EXACTLY that. THE VERY BASICS. Although my GPA was high, this was super easy to achieve, as the day before each test, the students are handed a copy of the test by the instructor and it is called a "Review". Next day you get the same as a test, with the order of the questions changed. I was hoping to make Dentistry my new life, and now have found that NONE of my coursework, hours, credits, NONE OF IT TTRANSFERS to more reputable schools. There is so much more I could list out but I am not going to waste any more of my time on Kaplan College, and you shouldn't either. What a shame that The Washington Post, which owns this school would allow their name to be sullied by it, or the name of the Post's owner, Ms. Kathernie Grham.
