Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
I absolutely loathe Towson University. Having to attend this place brings me an overwhelming feeling of dread and depression. It starts when I leave my house and increases as I progress closer to the school. If I could transfer anywhere else I would but unfortunately I am a senior with about 15 credits to go and can't afford to go anywhere else. I was never really excited to go to Towson but I never anticipated that I would hate it this much and be so displeased. My issues with Towson are as follows:1) The parking is horrendous! Expect to arrive atleast 40 mins to an hour before your class starts to begin numerous circles around the parking garage to find a spot. If you arrive late there will be no where to park garunteed. The permits are expensive and are abused by the parking authority constantly. I have recieved parking viloations upwards of $75 each ticket for things like parking in a blue zone when my permit is only for a green and organge zone, parking in a visitor section when there was no where to park, forgetting to hang a hang tag and my personal favorite parking over a line(what can you do when the other cars are parked over the line forcing you to?). For all the money their making of this you would think they would build another garage. Also, most garages are extremely far away from the buildings which makes walking to class in rain, snow, ice, etc. that much more unenjoyable. 2) Expect to be bored to tears in almost all of your classes. One of the requirements for my film major was taking a class on how to write stories! I think most of us have mastered that by the first grade. Most classes simply give you busy work that has no real point to it what so ever. If your looking for an intellectual challenge Towson, its professors and your peers will not provide it for you. I havn't seen too much drug activity other than seeing some kids come in high but I guess thats what you have to do to dull your brain down to the pathetic excuse for a class your sitting through. Most professors are nice but havn't got a clue about how to teach. Most couldn't teach a dog how to sit let alone lead a whole class into their future careers. 3) The film department is supposed to be one of the best on the East coast. Which is why I went there in the first place but that is a complete lie. I have not learned a single thing from my film classes that I didn't already know. You would be better of buying a camera and reading the instruction manual than taking a film class here. The assignments are insulting to any person with half an IQ and hardly leave room for any kind of creative freedom. I spent more time reading out of a book and taking tests on it than anything else. You may have one or two projects with the camera but will be it for the whole semester and there are like 8 workstations and 6 cameras for 100+ people.4) The people at Towson are obnoxious. Most are completely unfriendly, immature and full of high school bs. If you plan on having any sort of conversation with actual intellectual substance or stimuli you have come to the wrong place. A lot of people are self absorbed, pop culture replicate douche bags and if you don't wear whats popular, join a sorority or know whats going on with celebrities you are going to have a very hard time relating to most of the idiots that go here. The area is not much better. Towson in general has nothing to offer but shopping, rich assholes and shitty bars playing shitty music filled with super sluts. Baltimore is a pretty good place to hang around but don't expect anybody from Towson to go with you.I really can't wait to get the hell out of Towson and go to grad school. Feel free to make your own asumptions about Towson but consider yourself warned.
