The Emerson tradition is teaching from knowledge and experience. Though this is a plus, almost none of the faculty members have a degree in education which means they are TERRIBLE teachers/instructors. I'm a first semester junior and I plan on transferring out. In all the courses that I have taken here, I have only liked 3 of the professors. The classes are very small, which is great for learning but its awful because of how hard it is to get in them. The administration is very poor as well. Much of the money is spent on pointless things. While I have been here, they redid the dining hall and the gym. Both were absolutely unnecessary yet the school insists on raising tuition every year. They have a really nice gym they advertise but what they leave out is that its only for athletes—everyone else has to use the crappier one. Majority of the student body is composed of pretentious, close-minded, narcissistic people. Yes—they are very liberal which makes it seem like they are open minded but most don't know what they are talking about and refuse to hear any thought that isn't their own. It is so intense that I refused to take my ethics course here or any other philosophy course, despite having a deep interest in the subject. Most of the work assigned is just busy work that you don't get anything out of. It is extremely easy to get good grades as long as you hand in all your work. The set of Will & Grace is in the library—you're not allowed to use it though, it is only there to take up space so they can charge students even more to live in such an expensive part of town. The internet is terrible—I get kicked off randomly all the time, which makes doing homework really difficult and frustrating. I came to Emerson to study writing and rather than feeling inspired, I find myself absolutely hating every second of it. Basically, Emerson overcharges for a less than satisfactory education/experience. Almost everyone that I know has transferred or thought of it. Just hope that your family is super rich like everyone else here so that you can actually afford to go without being in debt for the rest of your life!
