The reviews of my predecessors seem to be omitting some pertinent information. YES, the school is very small. If a small school isn't what you're looking for, you should probably exclude BC from your list of prospective institutions. YES, this is a liberal arts college. That means you will have to take several classes that you don't particularly enjoy, have nothing to do with your major, and you will most likely never apply in your life. If you do not want to take these "extra" classes, you should probably eliminate liberal arts institutions, (many of which require you to take classes that are similar to the Brevard Common Experience classes that students at BC are required to take.) Yes, some professors are less than stellar. Welcome to college, boys and girls. That's just how it works. It would be unrealistic to assume that all of the professors you will encounter in you college career will be exceptional. You can ask ANY American college student, and they will tell you the same thing. YES, the town of Brevard is small. The town has many delightful little shops, restaurants and such, and I feel perfectly safe walking next door to the Ingles at night. If you prefer night clubs and 24/7 restaurants to what is considered one of the best small towns in the US, look elsewhere. If you do not enjoy being outdoors, look elsewhere. NO, this is not a massive greek party school. In fact, as of 2010, BC has NO social greek life. If going greek and partying like crazy is what you are trying to gain from your college experience, look elsewhere. When is comes to athletics, do keep in mind that BC has very recently made the transfer from being a NJCC program, to a NCAA DII school, (BC's first year as an NCAA school was 2008.) Despite this transition, BC has a two-time national championship mountain bike team, (although cycling is not an NCAA sport), and other successful programs, like football. It would be unrealistic to assume that after only 2 year as a full-fledged NCAA institution that BC would have a top-notch athletic program. Being as over 50% of the student body participates in athletics, it's hard to argue that the school doesn't care. I feel as if the academic quality depends on your personal major. As a criminal justice major, I work my butt off, and feel that I will be more than prepared for graduate school and/or the workforce. I can't say the same for other programs. This is no different than any other institution. Every individual school has its specific strengths/weaknesses. Brevard has a significant transfer rate, and I believe this is due to people not doing their research. Brevard is what it is. You'll see for yourself on your campus tour that Brevard is not a large, state-supported party school. If that's what you're interested in, look elsewhere. It is unrealistic to expect a school to be something it isn't, an unfair to judge it so. To each his own. I personally feel as if Brevard was the best college decision I could've made. I've met many friendly and down-to-earth people, have had some great professors, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I couldn't have asked for more.
