I'll start off with the few good things, before the bad. I guess for the most important thing, your education, Redlands is a good place to go. The classes are small enough so that you can really participate and shine and the professors actually really enjoy being teachers and not purely researchers. And being in southern california, I guess the weather's nice. However, the school is so manicured that it just drives me insane personally, and just in general the university is much more concerned with aesthetics than actually providing good services.

Maybe I'm just the odd one out here, but I am a sophomore and have made ONE friend so far, and its not even some lifelong friendship. I HATED it when I first came here, because you really are required to be in greek life if you want any kind of social life whatsoever. Also, almost all of the other girls here (outside of Johnston) are really DUMB girls with totally screwed up priorities—the kind who still, even in college, hang their self-esteem on the footballer's attention. Then, once in greek life, you will (or should) be so dissapointed by the party scene… all of these kids just started drinking/smoking weed when they got to college and are just making complete fools of themselves, getting so stupidly drunk that they just are an embarassment and make you want to weep out of shame for being a part of this stupid ass generation. I'm not kidding around—the Johnston Center is the only exception to this rule, and was the shining beacon light for me… until I joined.

The Johnston center is great for everyone in it except me, and maybe that's because I'm not a super community-oriented positive-comments-all-the-time gung-ho kind of person. If you are from the eastcoast and are the kind of person who is going to tell it like it is and don't really give a shit who you offend, you won't be happy here, because you just aren't allowed to offend people, period. There is tons of support for super friendly (i.e. fake as shit) people but hardly any at all for honest straight-up people with backbones.

Also, Redlands is a shitty ass town so if you come here you better be able to get a group of friends and be satisfied hanging around with them… doing pretty much nothing.

I'm transferring at the end of this year and I can't wait to get out. The Johnston center is pretty awesome though, it just doesn't fit with me, and that probably all boils down to cultural differences between the east and west. If you are an upbeat positive super friendly person who never has a bad day, I'm sure you'll be the most popular person in the world here… which is pretty stupid if you ask me.
