To be fair, there are a few good things about Grove City College. 1) Safety is not a problem here. Girls do not need to worry about walking around alone at night. 2) Since it is a really small campus, everywhere on campus is easily accessible and within walking distance. 3)If you plan on living in the Pittsburgh area, Grove City does have a really good reputation. HOWEVER, if you plan on working anywhere else, Grove City is not a well known school and since your GPA will most likely be lower than the average person, you won't stand a chance getting a job against people who went to a state school. Now for the negative things about Grove City. 1) I'm sure you've heard about the really strict rules. Like me, you probably think they won't be that bad. They are. Take intervisitation for example. 2) If you like being treated like a child, this is the perfect place for you. We are in college now, we are supposed to be adults. They expect us to act like adults but will not treat us like adults. On two occasions now, I have needed my dad to call the school to resolve an issue for me because no one took me seriously. 3) Classes here are unnecessarily hard. Teachers give lots of busy work, but you aren't even learning any more than you would at a normal school. Especially if you're an engineering major, this school does not have the equipment to train you correctly in the field. 4)There is a lot of talk about how the school has a huge underground party scene. There are maybe one or two parties a month. They are off campus, so rides are hard to find, especially for freshmen who aren't allowed to have cars. If you want to party, you have to go to Slippery Rock, which is again, hard to get to. If you do happen to find a party, there is a good chance that you WILL get caught. If that happens, you will get suspended for a week and will not be able to make up the work. That will make it almost impossible to pass your classes. Keep in mind too, that even if you are over 21, not only are you not allowed to drink on campus but you are not allowed to be drunk on campus either. 5) The surrounding city is horrible. There is absolutely NOTHING to do. The typical Grover spends satruday nights studying or at a bible study. 6) People here are extremely judgemental and rude. 7) You are forced to be religious. Chapel attendance is required. If you aren't a super conservative Christian, chances are this place will actually make you weaker in your faith because you will not want to me like the majority of people here. 8) Be prepared to buy special suplemental books for all of your classes that look at things from a Christian perspective. 9) The Humanities classes. Enough said. 10) Huge push on marriage here. People get married here ALL THE TIME. It's weird. 11) Dinner hours suck. Dinner ends at 6:30. If you want food after that, you have to buy it. Also, unlike most schools where you can go to the cafeteria as many times as you want, you can only go once for each meal here. 12) The library sucks. 13) Boys and girls are on seperate sides of campus. 14) Many of the sports teams, especailly the football team, are really bad. This school has absolutely NO school spirit. 15) No diversity. Almost everyone here is white upper-middle class. Boring. 16) The majority of people here are socially inept. Many guys and girls don't know how to interact with each other. There are a lot of awkward people here. 17) If you do want to have a social life, you will feel forced to join the Greek system. There is virtually no in between here. People are either super religious and love the school or they are huge partiers who hate it here and break all the rules. 18) Gym hours are really in convenient. 19) Because the school is so small, there is a good chance that classes you need will not be offered the semester that you need to take them. Also, after freshman year, you will probably have the same 3-4 professors for all of your classes. 20) Cable is really expensive. If you don't have cable, have fun fighting over one of the few public TVs on campus if there is something that you want to watch. 21) The internet is unbearably slow and often times doesn't work at all.
