I attend SBU as well and as a senior, I feel almost exactly the same as you. I feel jaded, irritated, and depressed after attending. As one student stated so fittingly, "Stony Brook kills dreams." |
Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
When I came to Stony Brook, I was an immature kid, who anxiously awaited the opportunity to break away from my oppressive family and start a new life for myself in college. I naievely believed that college would be the time of my life and be full of long lasting friendships, wonderful experience and a truly memorable time. However, all this was uterly destroyed during my time at Stony Brook. I have experienced serious serious depression to the point where I contemplated suicide and underwent tremendous pain and afflication at the hands of a truly regressing environment. I had all my dreams and ambitions in life annihilated and am only left with a serious longing to just get away from this place, area and world. The people here are vile and abrasive; the campus life is depressing and non existant, the academics are shameful and illustrate the lack of attention to the non-science programs. I seriously advise students who are thinking of attending this school to stop and think. Do you really want a school that views your mental health and safety as a secondary to your money? Do you truly desire to study in an environment where you are forced to claw your way through to get what you want rather than honestly achieving your success? Stony Brook has been a cancer in my life and truly hurt me in ways that I would never imagine, it made me into a considerably different and worse person than I once was and I tell myself everyday that I regret coming to this school, regret making the choices I made here and hope to God that people do not experience the things I've seen.
