SUNY New Paltz, especially in recent years, has really become a top-notch school. The academics have become increasingly more challenging, there are so many opportunities to get involved in clubs, sports, and leadership positions, and the student population is very diverse (and quirky). For the most part, I've had wonderful professors who were intelligent, were effective teachers, and challenged their students. The classes required you to do work. You can't just slide by in many of the classes. If you want an A or a B…you need to work for it. As for clubs and such, there's a club or organization for almost every interest?from Future Teachers of America to the Recycling Club, or the campus newspaper, radio station, or TV station. If there isn't a club for something you are interested in…you could always start one! One of my favorite things about New Paltz is the student population. They're friendly and they can be quirky (which is a good thing, in my opinion). I think that's what makes New Paltz so unique. People aren't boring and don't just blend in with one another. The school is also close to Poughkeepsie and is less than 90 minutes from NYC. New Paltz is known for rock climbing and hiking…which is a MUST when you are here! I love it here…and plan on staying to get my Master's. :)
