Major: Music - Performance (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a graduate student in music. I feel like on one hand the school gives its students a lot of "liberty" to decide their own curriculum or performance ensembles, repertoire, etc… however this also leaves some of the students lost. Many of the graduate courses are mixed with graduates and undergraduates. There is the thesis class, which is OK sure, but this is the exception to the rule. That is, that most of the classes are mixed. Performance majors in repertoire literature for example are required to do orchestration and improvisation classes. While I enjoy these pursuits, I sometimes feel like I am doing another bachelor's degree in half the time. The performance area in general is highly undervalued. To continue believing otherwise is to continue living in delusion. The largely unknown state college I attended for my undergraduate in music looks like Julliard in comparison to this place. The school uses it's wallet to hire a lot of outside contractors. As a result there are incredible performances and festivals, but in day to day life there is a disparity, a lack of an on site presence of performance faculty. There are however incredibly strong areas so I am just saying this as precautionary. Know what you are getting into.
