He cares more about Social Life than the average student.
Date: Nov 23 2010
Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
Academically there is an abundance of opportunities. I have found my science curriculum to be of high quality and professors make themselves available. The only exception to this was organic chemistry. My major is actually Medical Lab. Science, not general biology.

My gripe with the school is more related to the student body, in which there is no diversity. I'm not just speaking about ethnicity and race, I expected that everyone would be white. The interests and personalities are so monotonous the social life sucks. Students are generally close minded snobs that are very slow to warm up. Don't even try to talk to someone before class starts.

I must digress and say you can find high quality friends here. You are going to have to try harder then you would expect. If you are not in a frat or own your own apartment, or have a groups of friends in which the girl to guy ratio is atleast 4:1 you will not get in. Frats are the only way to get into parties and have the "college party scece". Allow me to explain how the warped situation developed. Police bust any party they can justify knocking on the door for. They have an unspoken agreement with Fraternities because frats must "register" there parties beforehand with the university and all of the attendees names listed. There is not supposed to be any underage drinking, but of course it is beyond naive to believe this is the case. The willing suspension of disbelief is carried out by the university because Greek life here is subjected to so many fees and BS, it is their reward for putting up with it.

The exception to this poor social scene is if you are wearing a Northface, uggs, spandex, are obsessed with jersey shore, frequently yell stupid drunk crap down the hall about the

insert sports team here
, and are generally a puppet of society you will fit in just fine at the U.

I went to Keene state last year and would say it is a superior school in every aspect but the array of classes offered. And the food, the dining halls here at unh are great for a…well dining hall.

Police here are overfunded (actually there are 2 police depts., (UNH police and Durham police which operate independently) and consequently have been known to hide in the woods waiting for underage kids with alcohol and/or other harmless crimes. There was even an article in the school newspaper about it. In a way you can't blame them, there is nothing else in Durham and they have to do something to keep their jobs right?

Bottom line: The education here is a great value, and the school is good. The town itself is beautiful. Social life is the most overrated. UNH started cracking down on the party scene after some riot years ago… one of the years the sox won.
