SAT/ACT taken in '02-'03 I know scoring systems have changed nowadays for SAT.

What's good? Great campus to find your niche academically and socially if you are keen in doing the work.

Stay on campus for 2 yrs, it will help your social network.

Go to office hours and meet your professors.

Join an activity/interest group and an academic society and/or a social group. This will expand your horizons.

Get involved with your department outside of the classroom setting.

Scan thru the many flyers handed out on bruin walk.

SUCCEEDING HERE TAKES INITIATIVE.

Yes classes are usually curved, but find your peeps to study with. A study group of 5 people can alleviate the competitive nature of classes because classes can be quite huge.

Class attendance is not mandatory in 80% of the classes. And classes will tend to be HUGE. I was in the psych dept who after 3 years switched to a less popular anthro dept. let's just say psych is a lot more competitive and professors are distant, but brilliant. But classes ARE HUGE in both departments.

I keep emphasizing class sizes because you have to want the education to get it. C's will come by without too much effort granted you're smart and absorb material with one pass (I do). But to get an A, you have to REALLY work for it. Because there are a lot of people around you who live for those A marks. So I'm satisfied with my Bs.

commentOops i dunno why I put 39 on the ACT score, my bad I had a 32. sorry. And I forgot to mention that Anthro Dept folk are easier to be in contact with and research opportunities are at least for me easier to come by.
commentOh, and the self-absorbed professors are one out of 20. so it isn't bad at all. I just remember 2 specific professors that bothered me but other wise professors are pretty chill. 90% of the TAs are approachable and like seeing you in their office hours.
