Date: Dec 10 2010
Major: Accounting (This Major's Salary over time)
I am currently in my senior year and one more semester to complete prior to graduation. I will be completing my BS in Public Accounting May 2011. Overall I' am pleased with my education. The classrooms were much smaller when I first started in 2007 now we have about 30 students per class room. I prefer that over 150 students in a lecture hall. My professor's are professional's knowledgeable business people that have worked for large companies and have been very successful. Many of the professors have taught at other colleges such as Rutgers University, Columbia University etc. The Accounting program by far is very challenging and you must put in a lot of time in order to pass these courses. But I can say that the financial aid office is a mess, but not as unorganized as my freshman year. Every since my first year of college I have not need to go in a complain. I also received a grant from the college which really was the deterring factor to pick this college. I can say that even though my counselor is very helpful, however the school does have a problem with scheduling student's to the correct courses for each year. I have to take 3 Accounting courses together because I did not know about a particular course. It seems that the new students coming in are really looking for a place where they can party not a place for education. Hop on the train to New York City. There is little to no social life at Mercy College, I am a commuter student so my priority here is to get my degree not socialize and this is the case with most of the students which commute. If you are looking to get an Accounting Degree pick Mercy. There are many successful business people that have attended here which work for companies like Price Waterhouse Coopers, KPMG and there is a list. It is really what you make of it and how serious you are about college. Oh also the Learning Center is a very helpful tool, I know my tutors and when I need help it is readily available. They really should stop accepting everyone that applies and put some restrictions, some of the students complaining are not serious about college they just want to party. This is not high school and when you?re irresponsible that the college has to make restrictions. The Graduate programs are very challenging also and you must maintain a good GPA otherwise you are dropped.
