Having gone to 7 colleges, several in chicago, pennsylvania, and ohio. I actually attended another for some time so I have seen much of the education system for what it is, and what sets one colleges apart from the other. apparently this propaganda is what sets John Carroll University apart from other colleges. Sadly, this isn't true. The time I have spent here has been utterly depressing. A terrible social experience and a not so great academic one. I hate to be so negative about the experience, sure there are some pros about the school which would include the rec center staying open till 12 and the small size of the campus making getting to class easy. There are way too many cons here. Academically, I have seen teachers that are condescending and actually make fun of their students. Also, the coursework is not challenging at all. Considering over 30% of the students here have been smoking weed the entire week, they continue to Ace their tests. Tests which sometime have no relation to the coursework. The faculty can be very nice although. Offering very much outside class help and extra credit if available.Onto the food. Wow. The worst food i have ever seen in my life. They're main food cafeteria closes before 8 or 7 every day and then youre forced to go to theyre inbetween for a $5 meatball sub.. with only 3 meatballs. Most of the food is overcooked or underprepared, i know this because of the many times i have gotten sick after realizing i was eating a chicken breast with a pink center. Dorm Life. If you can get past the smell of marijuana constantly it may be okay. Or maybe if you can get past the low water pressure, feces on the floor in bathrooms, spiders, more severe bug problems, broken heaters, fire alarms at 4am on school nights, or the plain loudness of all inhabitants that dont allow you to sleep its not that bad.Social Life. Well, i can say i definitely tried but if you are at all an easygoing, nice, or fun person don't expect to find good people here. The parties get busted every night. Every. night. The nightlife here ends at 2am and if you dont mind spending $15 dollars to get into the local bars, goodluck finding room to breathe. I have never met more stuck up people in my life. Safety. I have talked to 3 girls that have been raped within 3 weeks of being here. way to go campus security. enough said.I think i am done ranting on the matter of this prestigious college that turns out millionaires to the cleveland region. My advice. If you want an under-par easy experience then go ahead and join JCU. but if you want to be challenged, have great memories, and enjoy your time there with worthwile people. I would suggest another school.
