Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
Just completed my first semester at K-State, so these are early observations. Academics: Simple. Too simple. I took the classes that my adviser recommended and for the most part, high school was more challenging. Got straight A's with 16 credits. Parents are proud. But when I talk to friends who went to other colleges, I know that I'm being cheated by a dumbed down academic expectations. In one of my math classes, we used the exact same textbook as a friend who attended another college, but they covered at least twice as much of the textbook at his college. The class descriptions at K-State and at his college were very similar, but there's no way that the rigor at K-State came close to my friend's college. Extracurriculars: K-State revolves around basketball. It's a cow town basketball program that happens to provide some college classes. People: Super friendly, lots of party animals. But am I here to make friends, or here to get a college education?Value: For me, a great value, since more than half of my expenses were covered by scholarship. But then again, maybe not such a great value, since I learned less than half of what my peers at other colleges learned. My plans right now are to stay for another semester, then transfer to a real college. It's been fun, but I'd like to be able to get a decent job when I graduate.
