RIT is a fantastic school for all types. I got a great aid package and went to school for six years and got two degrees (Masters & Bachelors) for the equivalent price of just 2 years of undergrad school (~$60k). That amount also includes the money the school funded me to go study abroad in France for 9 months.

The coop program prepares your for the work world in a way that no other type of classroom scenario can. I was able to fill my resume in with real work experience that made me a very valuable employee when I graduated. I now work with a dozen other RIT grads in Maine, and when I worked in North Carolina for IBM, there was an entire network of hundreds of RIT students!

Also, the school has often been knocked for it's lack of social activities, but in the most recent years (2009-2011), that has definitely turned around. A "college town" was built next to campus that has several good bars and hang-out places. Downtown Rochester has lots of night-life too, from hip dance places to authentic pubs. Getting involved in campus clubs is easy too, there is a niche for everyone. I was involved in Greek life myself. Also, RIT offers some really unique activities classes - like "Outdoor Adventures" with Adirondack hiking/snowshoeing/canoeing and "Beers of the World" or "Wines of the World" where students taste weekly to refine their palates (and relax with a drink or two).

Simply said, you get from RIT what you put in to it. If you expect to get funding without the grades or extracurricular then you need to re-evaluate your position. But if you are willing to put in the work, you will leave this school with a ticket to top-tier companies. For example my graduating class has been employed at: Intel, Microsoft, TI, IBM, Apple, Google.
