I am a freshman English Secondary Ed major at VU. Let's just say it was nothing that I expected and I mean that it the most negative way. Valpo loves to brag and even have freshmen write CORE papers on how diversity is a major part of Valpo. That in itself is a load of crap, Valpo has less diversity than my small college prep Catholic high school in white suburbia of Chicago. I feel like I back pedaled in everything from high school. Heck I feel that if given the choice I would rather get my degree from my high school's neighboring university than here. It was a huge mistake, and if given the chance I would transfer. However, this is hardly possible since the CORE class that freshmen are required to take is 10 credits, yet transferring you'll get a solid 3 credits for the course. It's like Valpo's way of keeping your sorry self here. I'm not one to party and drink but my God this place is even boring to me. I even had a job lined up near my campus and wasn't allowed a car because it wasn't in Valparaiso (instead a neighboring city) then I find out from a friend that they got a parking permit and do not work in Valparaiso either. I have to park in some shady place and Valpo doesn't give a crap that I have to deal with these creepy guys on a daily basis. Thankfully my car lets my friends and I get off this place for a little while but there is really nowhere to go. Some of the professors are great but many seem to have a real stick in their ass. Valpo really exaggerates in everything to perspective students so kids do your research. The price tag I have on this "liberal arts education" is ridiculous i doubt I'll be able to pay off my debt from going here. If I could do it all over again I would pretty much go ANYWHERE but here…
