I initially came to Wheaton with high hopes. The campus was beautiful, the poli sci department seemed great, and people seemed nice enough. Later on, I was quite disappointed to say the least.

The quality of the education per se is fine, but it's an enormous ripoff for the tuition you pay. It's no better than what I've gotten in community college (for a tiny fraction of the cost, mind you), and I've found it far superior in quality (albeit MUCH more rigorous) at the 4-year SUNY school where I transferred. Unless you're on a nearly unlimited budget, Wheaton is not a good deal at all.

The small size of the school makes it feel an awful lot like high school, and the overall maturity level among students isn't much better. The school is full of spoiled rich kids who seem a bit oblivious to the concept that being rude and selfish has negative consequences. They sure are good at acting nice at first though.

The college is ostensibly liberal, but they don't seem as interested in eliminating bigotry and prejudice as much as shifting it from one group to another (reverse racism, etc.) Even the sweetest-natured guy will not be able to escape the abundance of ugly, man-hating feminists.

I wish I could say that heavy drinking is the thing on campus that's most likely to cause long-term brain damage, but it pales in comparison to what the intense boredom that you'll have to deal with. Oh, and just when you wanted to have a drink with your friends to make things somewhat fun (or even just to cope), you have to watch out for public safety (campus police) who are seemingly just dying to bust you for something. When they started cracking down on parties even more intensely, people started going off campus to party…often by car.

I transferred out of Wheaton after 2 years, and to this day I do not regret that decision one bit.
