The education in this school is well worth the money, its cheap and the teachers I have had so far have done a good job helping me understand the curriculum. Although with this school there is some extreme fine print that they for some reason never tell you. THE FINE PRINT: Central Connecticut State University is a COMMUTER SCHOOL.In order to be a commuter school more than 50% of the students have to be commuters. The population of this school is 11,000 and that sounds good until you find out that 75% of these kids go home on the weekend and only 2000 of these kids live on campus. On the weekends there is only about 1600 kids on campus and the cops up here are plain assholes. Another statistic they fail to tell you is that only 46% of first year students actually graduate from ccsu. That means the other 54% either drops out or transfers. If your trying to find an accredited school to transfer from this is a good school to do that from. The only fun parties are found off campus at the apartments but if you go to the ones close to campus you'll find douche bag campus pd or new Britain pd storming in and giving every single kid under 21 a 136 dollar ticket for possession of alcohol (SOMETIMES you'll get nice cops who just make everybody leave without giving tickets, but in my experiences the majority of the time i get an asshole cop). The only way out of it is to blow a 0.00 into a breathalyzer or be above 21. The New Britain PD makes like 75% of their income off busting college parties, so if you come here and you want to party expect a few run ins with the police. The safest place to party is in James Hall (the on campus suites) because usually an RA will bust the party and just write you up before the police have any involvement, which is a lot better than a 136 dollar ticket. Winter up here is brutal, its very cold all the time and extremely windy. If your trying to come to college just for education this is the place for you, but if your trying to party hard and meet a lot of friends then you should look elsewhere. Since its a commuter school and everybody lives at home, its hard to make friends because nobody is ever around. When commuters are here they are just trying to go to class and go home. The main thing that makes this school worthwhile is the extremely cheap tuition. The school has a wide variety of clubs and other school hosted events which are sometimes fun, and its a Division 1 school so the sports games are fun to go to, and theres normally a lot of kids at the games (including commuters). After most wins there will be a huge party at the sports houses, and the cops are a bit more leaniant about busting those parties because they support ccsu sports. You will occasionally find a really fun party that isnt a sport house on the weekend that doesnt get busted by cops, but most of the time its the sport houses though. On the plus side though, on the weekends there will always be SOMETHING to do. Normally if there isnt any fun parties somebody in the apartments will have like 10 kids over to drink and chill, which is better than nothing. The cafeteria sucks, there is no variety and the food is awful. On Friday Saturday and Sunday the cafeteria closes at 6:30 pm and doesnt open again until 7 am the next day. Monday - Thursday its open till 9. So basically on the weekends you are going to starve, and the only food you get is shitty horrible cafeteria food that makes you sick. I cant emphasize enough how SHITTY the cafeteria is, i would not advise getting the meal plan. This is my first year here and its my second semester now, I had the meal plan first semester and dropped it for the second. I live on campus in Sheridan Hall which is nice, try to avoid Vance Hall because thats by far the shittiest one. All the other dorms are pretty nice, but if you are coming here and you are out of state or the type of kid who doesnt want to go home (like me) i would advise living in James Hall (which costs a bit extra to live in because it is a suite) because most kids who live there are down to party and dont go home on the weekends. Right now i attend CCSU and I would give it about a B+ for education C+ for social life and a C- for Hot girls. I plan on transferring at some point, i just dont know when or where yet. I hope i was of some help.
