Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
Honestly, EMU is a good university with a promising future. The quality of education is good. The students, staff, and faculty tend to be friendly. If you work hard and look for opportunities, your degree most certainly is worth something. I just got into two fully funded experimental psychology Ph.D. programs and, over the summer, I received a competitive research fellowship from the APA. The big downside is our collective inferiority complex. We?re a masters level teaching university and the University of Michigan is world class a doctoral granting research institution. Most undergraduates aren?t clear on what those distinctions mean, so there?s an inevitable comparison new students make. When that happens, it kills school spirit and you get some people who think they?re pretty bright talking as though they?re above being here and the those of us who are comfortable here. If, however, you can ignore the self-hating portion of the student population, make good friends, and take advantage of the different kinds of opportunities your department offers, especially ones that take you beyond the classroom, you will leave with a great university education.
