Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
I am currently a senior Psychology major at Eckerd. I love it. Yes, the beach is small, but its right on campus. There's also a water front area where you can take sailing lessons, go on boat trips (skiing, wake boarding, ect.) and rent boats (kayaks and sail boats). The staff are always looking for suggestions for activities that the residents are interested in. Yes, the dorms are older, as are some of the buildings, but they are slowly being replaced. Unfortunately the former president of Eckerd was not a very good guy and used the college's money inappropriately, therefore the college is catching up in terms of athletic teams and buildings. As with all colleges you may be interested in, VISIT EACH ONE FIRST! You can not rely on pictures posted on the school's web page to decide if you like it or not. Eckerd's campus tours are all conducted by current students who will be honest with you about the college. A visit also gives you a chance to see what the students are like, and if you will fit in with them. Eckerd also offers which are days where accepted applicants spend a day and evening with a current Eckerd student. I strongly suggest this experience if you are seriously considering Eckerd. I do not think Eckerd students are close minded, they are some of the most open minded people I have met thus far. Eckerd offers a liberal arts education which is great and will give you a well-rounded education. You will learn about all kinds of things that have happened, or are happening around the world. The travel opportunities are great! I could go on and on about how great Eckerd is. I do not understand what the previous posters found wrong with Eckerd, my only guess is that they did not visit or thoroughly research the university.
