Major: Sociology (This Major's Salary over time)
I've been going to Ramapo for about four years, so I've seen this school inside and out. I've had great experiences and some bad ones, but I'll try and keep this as un-biased as possible. The campus itself is in a beautiful location if you like trees and small mountains, and there is plenty of natural things around. The education I've got here I feel is fantastic, and I know for a fact that (at least in the Sociology department) the faculty are independent thinkers that genuinely want to see you grow as a person. I owe a great deal of my own growth and development to the faculty of this school. On the other hand, working with the school administration is a nightmare. The administration has given little reason for students to trust them, and the relationship between the two groups is poor. Changes in policy are authoritarian and made without considering the needs or desires of the students, requiring many passive-aggressive "protests" in order to get a dialogue started. Guest policies, alcohol policies, and the general lack of social life are all big sources of contention, and since the administration and students look upon each other with contempt no progress can be made. The surrounding towns of Mahwah and Suffern do not offer much for college students, and getting into NYC is an expensive and time consuming ordeal. Ramapo is a great school to grow as a person and learn about life, and people bond around the common enemy of the Ramapo administration. But if you like parties, urban life, and fun, I would suggest choosing a different school.
