I went to Bonaventure from undergrad through grad school and I wouldn't trade the experience I had there for anything. Talk to any alum and they'll tell you the same thing. It's the type of place you'll get attached to.

A couple of the negative posters on here talk about how they left after a semester or a year. You can't base your experience off of just one semester or even a year. Freshman year can be difficult and awkward. You won't know anyone, you're in a strange place and you don't know what to get into for fun or where the parties are at. You have to give things a chance.

Also, it always surprises me when people say something like,

It's in the middle of nowhere and there's nothing to do.
Shouldn't you have known it was in a rural area before you came? I am originally from a very large metropolitan area… one of the largest in the country. I went to a very large high school. I research Bonaventure well before I came and I knew what I was getting into. Part of what makes Bonaventure unique is the location. It's a very relaxing place literally in the middle of the mountains. The closest city is Buffalo. It's not a suitcase school. People generally stay on the weekends because no one lives close by enough to go home. That type of environment will really allow you to make some of the best friends you'll ever have.

Bonaventure is a fun place but you'll have to make your own fun whether that's getting hammered on the weekends or going to basketball games. You'll find your group of friends eventually. The people I hung out with my freshman year I didn't really hang out withe the rest of the time. Freshman year is just weird. Some of my friends talk about how they didn't like Bonaventure when they first came but eventually it grew on them because they found their niche. It has a good reputation. When I tell people I went there, they're interested.

If you're thinking about going to St. Bonaventure, make sure you visit first. I'm going to say it's for anyone because it's not. You really have to have an open mind about it. Coming from a big city, it was kind of a culture shock when I got there. But like I said, I did my research and knew what I was getting into. When you get to Bonaventure, make sure you join a club or do some type of activity. Even if it's just playing basketball with a few guys. Just get to know people that way because those people will likely become your best friends throughout college. Don't just depend on the people on your floor. You might not like a lot of them and that's okay. You might not even like your room mate. I didn't. But I got to know people I clicked with. Part of the whole Bonaventure experience is committing to it and sticking with it. It might take time for you to get adjusted. It's different for everyone. I had a fairly easy time getting adjusted and I really enjoyed my first year there. You'll be glad that you did. Like I said earlier, you get attached to the place the people. Your friends become your family.

I would do it all over again if I could.
