I graduated from MTI in 2010 as a Medical Assistant with a 4.0 GPA and Honors.

It was a complete waste of time.

First off, they don't teach everything an MA needs. They do not cover suture removal, wound care, lavage, or any other number of things that are needed on the day-to-day job.

Secondly, they're "externship" program is a joke. After you get your "training", you work at a doctor's office for a few weeks with real patients…except where I was placed (and I've been told this is the norm) that you end up working on everything else except patients. I was stuck doing file work for about two weeks, and was told point blank, "you do this more than anything until you get some experience"…isn't an externship where you get hands on training working on patients? If what they are saying is true, then why in the heck is there even an externship anyway?

Lastly, don't even think about getting any use from their placement services. First off, they tell you to do most of the work, where you go out and post your resume and apply for jobs you find on your own. Then, they use your hard work and place their "pet students" in positions you've applied for and give them the school's recommendation instead of you. This happened several times to me, where I would post my app and list I was a graduate, then tell the school where I applied for, and hear time and and time again that other students (who got lesser grades than I did AND heard about a couple of students who were only able to complete their training with my help because they could not finish their lessons on their own and needed outside assistance from me) where given the direct recommendation from the "placement department" and I was left holding the bag and without a job.

Run, do not walk, far away from this school. It is nothing more than a diploma mill and is only after you for your money.
