GSU is a big campus that is very crowded. It is not a traditional college, which to me is a good thing. Most colleges are shut off from the outside world, where the students have to "leave" campus to get a feeling of the outside world. GSU is located in downtown Atlanta, businesses are walking distance. There are many internships and jobs available near the campus, so the student doesn't have to go far. There are many opportunities at GSU and it's up to the student to take advantage of them. There are lots of people near the campus that aren't faculty nor students, and students can find themselves in dangerous situations. It's always good to pay attention to your surroundings, women should always carry mace and there are many safety boxes where students can call security if they feel unsafe, they can walk you to your class and to your dorms. I recommend that both men and women, especially women since we are often times weaker than our attacker, to carry mace if you are alone, especially at night whether you're on campus or not. I would take these precautions even if I wasn't at GSU. Most classes are about the size of high school classes, and the biggest class ranges from 100-120. Typically the general classes are the biggest and when classes are narrowed down by major, the classes are much smaller. Finding somewhere to park is a challenge at times, but it's to be expected, it's in Atlanta and GSU has about 30,000 students. GSU fees are on the expensive side now that they have a football team. Since fees must be paid, I recommend taking advantage of the rec center and stuff like that, if you paid for it, then use it. Besides the Freshman 15 is realistic, and the rec center is very, very nice. The dorms are very nice and if you're coming from a small town, GSU offers a Freshman Learning Community. Don't be an outsider, meet people, go outside or your comfort zone sometimes. Enjoy the GSU experience. All in all it's a good school, it has is disadvantages and advantages.
