Date: Mar 22 2011
Major: Engineering Department (This Major's Salary over time)
This is as of March, 2011. Many things have changed recently and are still changing rapidly. I'm a freshman, white suburbanite from Massachusetts.

Pros:

  • Can't speak for the other majors, but the engineering degree is very well respected. You are almost guaranteed a good job or admittance into a good grad school.
  • Nice campus.
  • Good Greek scene.
  • Good facilites.
  • Relatively small classes.
  • Almost everyone is really smart.
  • Cons:

  • Although improving, still very few girls (26%).
  • Expensive.
  • Troy's nothing to brag about.
  • Lack of diversity amongst students (didn't think this would bother me at first, but it would be nice to know some non-STEM students).
  • No language program (supposedly coming back soon, and you can cross-register at nearby schools).
  • A lot of weird kids.
  • Given the choice, I don't think I'd come here again because of the price and lack of girls, but it doesn't suck enough to transfer. If you come here, you just have to work to get your money's worth and have fun. I'd prefer a slightly larger more well-rounded state university with a good engineering program. Don't come here if you don't know what you want to do.
