Ok this review is geared toward FILM MAJORS b/c there is a real lack of advice for them. Filmies be aware:The BFA program is a good value, the Cinema Studies BA is not if you want to make films and not just study them.THe BFA requires a separate application and portfolio by dec of the year before you plan to attend. Again, the BFA is for production and BA is for cinema studies. Next this department has super staff, all helpful and passionate filmmakers. There are insurance and equipment fees every year, whether you use the equipment or not, and the equipment is ONLY available to BFA students, NOT BA students, although BA students will pay equipment fees. The classes get smaller in your major and are relevant and very useful to your education (I am BFA so I am speaking mostly for BFAs in this regard).Kia in the film dept. is so sweet and helpful so make friends with her early on. The gear is limited and again only for BFA students.Overall the dept deserves a B, or an A if only taking into account the BFA program which is about 30 students a year…The school itself is large, lots of (film) clubs to get involved with- the B grade is an accurate reflection in my opinion and I'm a transfer from FAU in soFLA.IN conclusion: UCF ok, BA not worth it- apply for the BFA or go somewhere else for film OR change your major to something close like comm., and the BFA probably an A, maybe A- b/c it's not as prestigious as UCLA or wins as much recognition as FSU, but still worth applying to!
