When I was searching for schools to go to in high school I would always try to look up reviews online. When I got accepted to SFSU I started to look more in depth, and I felt like a ton of the comments were so negative and made SFSU seem like a miniature, social life-less community college. I came here anyway, and I can say that it is so the opposite! I don't know who the people posting reviews were, but obviously they weren't very proactive or social creatures. If you are going to come here as a freshman, you should really try to get on campus housing, however. I live in Mary Ward and have made so many friends, and had so many experiences that I probably wouldn't have had otherwise. In the case that you don't get housing though, don't think it is the end of the world. I know and hangout with a lot of people who live off-campus, and not only is it fun to get off campus, but you also have a place to throw a party too! Speaking of getting off-campus, DO IT. Ride the muni downtown to the city. It is one of the best places to live, take advantage of that! Also, please go to Golden Gate Park. Please. With the social life aside, San Francisco State's academics are pretty cool too. Most students that go here are aware that it is a safety school for most, and that a lot of us are just Berkeley's rejects. HOWEVER, SF state has a lot of things to be proud of and a lot of challenging and enlightening classes, if you choose to take them. The professors are awesome as well, and offer a lot of hands on experience and field trips. (Science classes especially)The atmosphere rules, and most of the people, students and professors, are ridiculously open-minded and into actually experiencing life. You'll soon learn that the campus is really tiny, you can get from one end to another in 10 minutes. It's pretty convenient. The city of San Francisco is beautiful and amazing, and the academics are challenging but not so much that you will break out because of stress. It is a really nice place to live and go to school. Don't be discouraged by negative reviews. SFSU, like every other place, is what you make it.
