Going to Villanova was hands down the worst decision of my life. I have made good friends here who do not fit the typical mold of a Villanova student. There is one point I would like to make clear, this is a phenomenal academic institution, has just been ranked 7th in the nation for its undergraduate business program, and has great teachers and faculty that are there for you to learn from.

The negatives of this school come straight from the ideas of the student body and most importantly, the administration.

The demographic of Villanova is students from private Catholic and preparatory schools who have been raised in a bubble of arrogance, distorted self-worth, and intolerance to ideas not drilled in their head by their parents. These are the students who are usually extremely close to their parents, latching on every lie told to them for their own safety (for good reason at the time) and refusing to see the world in their own light and growing up. Closed-mindedness is a major problem in the minds of students at this school, and the majority fit this category.

Atheism/agnosticism, homosexuality, and recreational drug use are looked down upon. The left side is frowned upon. Social and political views have no relevance, because there is no person ready to debate or express any of their views because holding your own views is a nonexistent concept. These students have been cloned by their parents. The liberalism and activism expected at a college does not exist here.

The major problem with Villanova is the administration's obsession with the reputation of the school. This is a Catholic Augustinian University, which means that everyone who comes here does not like to have fun, right? Wrong! People want to enjoy themselves at this school. The way Villanova presents their school shows how illegitimate the social situation is.

Villanova is actively against the construction of a Fraternity Row and have been for many years, although the land is available and has been offered by alumni at NO COST to the school other than building fraternity houses. This is known by all parents and students coming in; The school makes it clear that students don't have fun on campus. The demographic (closed-minded catholic parents) will eat The school will not have housing for Greek Life on campus, leaving all parties far off campus in the nearby towns. Cabs are frowned upon by the fraternities, so rides must be run to and from parties by pledges. Common sense shows that this will increase the chances of drunk driving, and cars will be packed full of kids leaving the campus. But who cares, Villanova is not liable and their reputation is not put at risk.

Villanova also knowingly allows the Fraternities to perform illegal operations with nearby clubs and bars. The Greek Life at Villanova consists of a few "ticket parties" per fraternity per semester. The fraternities will rent out a club in philly for a night, and the school will sanction buses (knowingly parked right near the freshman for their convenience) to leave campus and go to these paid parties. At these, no one's ID is taken into consideration. This is probably the most unsafe, illogical, and unbelievable method of bringing a social scene to Villanova. VILLANOVA KNOWINGLY PUTS THEIR STUDENTS AT A GREATER RISK FOR INJURY AND ARREST THAN IF THEY WERE TO CONTAIN THIS ACTIVITY. After attending one of these, I was exposed to what Villanova is really about.

At the end of the year, I feel like I have wasted my time and parent's money at this institution. I have taken away a great amount from my classes, but the lack of exposure to the world in the students and the closed minded prohibitionist approach of the administration on the social scene has hindered the reputation of this school in the big picture.

Villanova only wants your money and nothing else. Please don't come here.

questionSo…you think that recreational drug use is ok…homosexually and experimentation are ok…hmmm well - you are young and do not see how these things do permanent damage to self esteem. I am glad to here this school is one of the last bastions of conservativism…thanks for the input.
responseSeems like this post's author is yet another post-modern liberal who grew up socially-awkward, socially-marginalized and ostracized, and didn't come from great parents and family. Of course you don't belong at Villanova! It's a university that appreciate family values and tradition (with some obnoxious collegiate practices sprinkled in). The students tend to be Catholic, well-educated and have great families at home. They're not the hipster-types that are found at non-sectarian private institutions or state schools. Just find a college or university in which you fit then you'll be satisfied. Villanova's not for everyone. If you're not happy at VU, then you probably wouldn't like Notre Dame, Boston College, Loyola Maryland, Holy Cross, Providence or Gonzaga either.
comment^^Yes, Yes, and YES! The person above me hit the nail on the head with their response! OP (original poster), you KNEW this University has a Conservative background, so why did you even apply here when you knew you would feel out of place? Reading your response, you probably should have applied to Columbia University, Occidental College, or University of San Francisco (USF) just to name a few HIGHLY liberal institutions!
