Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
I am from washington state, completely acroos the country, so i truely stepped out on a limb to attend BCU..first of let me say BCU HAS THHEEEE BEST BAND OF ALL HBCU's ! and the football team was #1 in the MEAC this year, with a 10-2 overall season! but From my experience i would say there are a few "MUST" before choosing this institution. 1) DO YOUr RESEARCH: research every single thing you possibly can about this school, research the rules and policies, the organizations and how effective they are, research the program/major you wish to go into and their accredidation.. when iwent to BCU, I did not do these things so i was in for a rude awakening.. i was shocked by the curfew and rules for freshman residents. curfew is 12am on weekdays and 2am on weekends, there is never opposite sex visitation and the campus is extremely touchy about this.. you will get suspended or kicked out for this. there were not as many active organizations as i had hoped, SGA (aside from the greeks) were the most popular, but their were only a few faces out of the entire group that actually connected with the campus.. other than SGA there were modeling troops, which put on shows and were overall a good look.lastly, greek life! BCU greeks were the highlight of the campus, they mostly hang out in the quad/yard during the day, and they make any function great ! i loved the greeks, although the AKA's were very quiet and small on campus, which was a surprise to me, however things may have changed. there are a few other small opganizations on campus like dance teams, and choir.2) VISIT THE CAMPUS: BCU campus is not very big, the front part of the campus ( the part you see in the brouchure) is very nice. but behind that you see the not so nice buildings and landscaping, even though overall it ws not terrible, it may not be what you are expecting. the cafe is small and has select hours you may eat, it closes at 7pm, and the only other thing to eat is checkers and bethune grill (if you dont have a car) so grocery shopping is a must!3) TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS: the financial aid experience will drive you crazy if you dont have everything in place by registration day. it took 4 months to release my financial aid.also take the palcment test very seriously! if you score poorly you will have an entire schedule full of college prep classes(which you DO NOT recieve credit for) and the school is very expensive if you have to pay an entire year for prep classes. MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING YOUR MONIES WORTH WHEN IT COMES TO CLASS SELECTION4)GO IN WITH AN OPEN MIND: every single university and college has its ups and downs but at the end of the day, its all what you make it,i left BCU but i have friends who are very happy to stay. if you are in the band, cheerleading squad, SGA, or greek life ,Or in the nursing ,business program i would reccomend BCU. if not, you may find yourself bored after the first few weeks.
